Studentship in Usability Engineering
This
PhD studentship will involve research on usability engineering
and human-computer interaction for eCommerce and eBanking
services.
The PhD student will be based at the Centre for Communication
Interface Research (CCIR) which is part of the Institute
for Digital Communications (IDCOM), School of Engineering.
Located in the University's King's Buildings campus,
this is one of the top rated Research Schools in the
UK, with more than 80 academics and over 165 postgraduate
students from all over the world.
The
Centre for Communication Interface Research (CCIR) is
a multi-disciplinary research centre comprising engineers,
linguists, psychologists and human factors experts.
CCIR has over fifteen years experience in usability
engineering and design plus methodologies for the evaluation
of telephone, Internet and mobile phone technologies
for eCommerce services. Current research involves work
on spoken dialogue applications for eCommerce and eBanking
services; studies on Second Life and other social media;
creation of services based on speaker verification and
other biometrics technologies; understanding embodied
conversational agents and virtual acting; as well as
the modelling of customer-brand relationship.
This PhD project will start in 2010.
Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, a first-class
or upper-second-class Honours degree, or equivalent,
or a higher qualification, in a relevant subject.
Due to funding criteria, the studentship is open to
UK and other EU students only. The award will pay an
annual stipend of £16,890 per annum plus UK/EC
fees.
