Recent and current work
Since 2000 my work has been mostly on dialogue design, experimental
design and statistics for applied human-computer interface projects in CCIR
- in particular the
Spotlight project (2000-2) on
spoken dialogue engineering for financial services and travel applications,
and further telephone dialogues research for
Lloyds TSB (1998 to present) and for
Standard Life Bank (2002-3).
I have acted as second supervisor for the following recent PhD
students within CCIR:
- Jenny Wilkie - system-initiated digressions in automated telephone
dialogues (submitted December 2005, graduated June 2006).
-
Nancie Davidson (now Nancie Gunson) - automated dialogue strategies for
surname capture (submitted January 2007, graduated June 2007).
-
Hazel Morton - development and assessment of the SPELL system for
foreign language learning (submitted September 2007, graduated June 2008).
I also did some work on quality of service for voice over IP with
Nestor Becerra Yoma of the University of Chile during 2000 and 2001.

I am in the process of uploading my brain to the Internet... Well,
some of the content of my brain anyway. You can find it at
